Amidst the looming threat of climate catastrophe, the global community has rallied together to combat the adverse impacts of climate change, striving to reduce carbon emissions and champion sustainable practices. At the forefront of this humanitarian endeavor is the groundbreaking VET4GREEN project, a transformative three-day workshop orchestrated by the Central European Chamber of Commerce (CECC) under the visionary banner of ‘Saving the Planet through IMYUGA!’

The VET4GREEN initiative represents a paradigm shift in addressing environmental challenges by harnessing the power of Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET), known as Imyuga in the local context of Rwanda. Mr. Dusabe Patrick, the esteemed project manager for Africa at CECC, shares insights into this revolutionary movement, highlighting the collaborative efforts between CECC and the European Union that birthed the inaugural VET4GREEN project—aptly named ‘Study Visit Poland,’ held in the picturesque city of Wrocław.

The workshop, a beacon of inspiration, delved deeply into the role of vocational education training as the linchpin for cultivating a greener environment. Dusabe eloquently states, “VET4GREEN supports the development of vocational skills and facilitates the exchange of transnational good practice by fostering cooperation between European and African partners in the green energy sector.”

The crescendo of the three-day workshop culminated in unanimous resolutions, echoing the resounding call to action. The consensus among stakeholders and participants reverberates—a resolute commitment to translate visionary ideas into tangible, impactful reality. Central to the clarion call is the recognition that the future of green energy hinges on mobilizing both European and African industries to embrace sustainable practices wholeheartedly.

This ambitious endeavor sees CECC joining forces with esteemed private organizations, including the KARIBU Foundation and Formac SKA from Poland, the Nordic Diaspora Forum from Sweden, institutions from Cameroon (HIPDT),SOCIAL VIEW  Kenya (SVK), Somalia, and Rwanda (Horizon Institute Of Research & Innovation), all united in their commitment to ushering in a new era of sustainable practices.

VET4GREEN underscores the imperative need for collective involvement, targeting key stakeholders, including VET institutions, teachers, curriculum designers, employers, university students, VET students, young professionals, and companies within the green energy sector. The resolute belief is that only through collaborative efforts can the dream of a greener, sustainable future be made palpable. In conclusion, as the world grapples with the alarming rise in temperatures and escalating climate change effects, July 2023 stands recorded as the hottest month in history. In response to this urgent call, VET4GREEN emerges not just as a solution but as a moral obligation to contribute to the salvation of our shared home. If vocational education is indeed one of the keys to solving this complex equation, then, undoubtedly, it is a risk worth taking—a commitment to securing a sustainable legacy for generations to come.
