From June 13 to 15, more than 90 Rwandans youth living in Germany gathered in Münich in the first ever Rwanda Youth Connect-Germany event themed “Rooted, Growing and Thriving”. During the retreat, they attended panel discussions, listened to successful stories, engaged in meaningful Dialogue, and received advice and motivation from Mrs Jeanne Adili Ndatirwa.
The retreat featured three sessions: Navigating Career Paths in Germany, Jobs & Career Strategies in Rwanda and Germany, and Academia and Career: Bridging the Gap. The sessions were concluded with the closing remarks from the Ambassador. The first session included panelists professionally established in Germany with expertise in Law and sociology, Energy, and Information technology. The panelists highlighted the importance of self-branding, self-confidence, and embracing adaptability.
Germany, as a multicultural country that welcomes over 200 thousand Foreigners from diverse backgrounds each year, needs outstanding workers. To succeed in such an environment, self-branding and networking were emphasized as essential to navigating Career paths in Germany. Given the constantly evolving work environment and technologies, the youth were recommended to stay agile and adapt to emerging trends, while preserving their sense of self and cultural identity.
In other sessions, the youth were encouraged to learn the German language, which many consider the key not only to academic success but also to securing jobs- Since German employers often prefer candidates who can communicate in German effectively. Mental health was another key topic given that 60% of immigrants experience related challenges. Practical Tipps were shared on managing pressure and depression, with socializing and speaking openly about problems being highlighted as the most effective strategies.
In her closing Remarks, Miss Jeane Adili Ndatirwa, wife of the Ambassador of Rwanda to Germany, Igor Cesar, addressed common misconceptions often rooted in limited mindsets. She emphasized the importance of recognizing and seeing opportunities back home in Rwanda, like buying land and real estate. She also highlighted the value of networking, self-worth, and a strong connection to one’s country and culture.
The youth also elected their new leadership team: President Bigoro Moise and Vice-president Naomie Ikamba, who took office after the vote. They committed to fostering a more connected and engaged Rwandan youth diaspora.
Throughout the weekend, the participants enjoyed opportunities to socialize, build networks, and speak Kinyarwanda freely. The final day included a sightseeing Tour to the host city, with visits to Marienplatz and Allianz Arena.
Amongst the coming events is the Kwibohora celebration, scheduled for July 5th in Frankfurt am Main, the financial center of Germany and Europe.
