Rwandans and their friends, Polish government officials, diplomats, and staff from international organizations gathered in Poland to celebrate Rwanda’s 31st Liberation Day.
The event took place on July 4, 2025. The Rwandan Ambassador to Poland, Professor Anastase Shyaka, gave a speech highlighting that Liberation Day is a key moment in Rwanda’s history and marks the foundation of the new Rwanda.
Ambassador Shyaka spoke about the important video shown at the event that remembered the liberation struggle. He explained how the Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA), led by President Paul Kagame, stopped the Genocide against the Tutsi after defeating the former genocidal government on July 4, 1994. The RPA entered Rwanda to stop the genocide and to remove the government that had planned it.
Today, Rwanda has found its own solutions and has become a role model for respecting everyone’s rights, regardless of their ethnic background. Rwanda has made many friends around the world and has signed important agreements in security, investment and trade.
The Ambassador also said, “The relationship between Rwanda and Poland is growing stronger. In 2024, we signed a Bilateral Air Service Agreement here in Warsaw. This is a big step for improving trade between our two countries.”He also highlighted the strong friendship between the governments of Rwanda and Poland, and mentioned that Rwanda was given a chance to showcase its locally produced coffee in Poland.
The Polish representative at the event, Anna Radwan-Röhrenschef, praised Rwanda, saying, “Rwanda is a great example of a country that has come out of the darkness of genocide and is now a leader in Africa and the world in areas like technology and agriculture.”
Ambassador Shyaka also thanked Rwandans living in Poland for their good work in representing Rwanda and promoting Rwandan culture.
